Ep48. Untold stories: In conversation with Sahraa Karimi (ناگفته ها: گفت و شنود با دکتر صحرا کریمی) In this episode I speak with one of the most talented Afghan filmmakers, directors, scenario writers and former head of Afghan Film Dr. Sahraa Karimi. We discuss a wide range of topics, from Sahraa Karimi's childhood to her path towards becoming a film director to her many migrations and years of work in Afghanistan where she experienced both love and hatred. We also discuss the art of filmmaking and there is a rapid fire question section at the very end! According to many she is a controversial figure who dares to challenge society and does not shy away from confrontation and breaking taboos. It was fun speaking with her. I very much enjoyed our conversation and I learned a lot from our chat. It is not easy to be a woman in Afghanistan. It is a thousand time harder to be in a leadership position in a tribal and undeveloped society such as that of Afghanistan. I personally admire and salute her courage and bravery and would like to wish her the best in all her future endeavours. I am also looking forward to her future films and writings.
